LATEST: Winter Storm Impacting Oklahoma
















Winter weather is occurring across southern and eastern Oklahoma and will expand to cover central and parts of northern Oklahoma later this afternoon through tonight.  Here are the latest updates by Oklahoma region on what you can expect from the ongoing winter storm.

THE PANHANDLE
WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY in effect
Some light snow is occurring across parts of the panhandle.  Periods of snow will continue through midnight tonight.  Highs will only reach the mid-to-upper-teens today, with lows tonight falling to the mid-to-upper single-digits.  Northerly winds will blow between 5 and 10 mph, with wind chill values as low as 0 degrees.  The daytime snow accumulation will reach up to 2 inches.  For Friday, expect a slight chance of flurries in the morning; otherwise, skies will remain mostly cloudy throughout the day.  Highs will be in the mid-to-upper teens with wind chill values as low as -10 degrees, mainly in the far western portion of the panhandle.  Friday night will also see mostly cloudy skies with a slight chance of flurries and the temperature dropping down to the lower single-digits.  Wind chill values will be between -10 and 0 degrees.

Saturday through Sunday will see the return of slight chances for snow showers.  Highs on Saturday will reach the upper-teens, while highs on Sunday approach the low-to-mid-20s.  Saturday night's low will be in the upper single-digits, as will Sunday night's low.  By Monday, skies clear.  Temperatures will finally rise above freezing beginning Wednesday afternoon.

NORTHWEST OKLAHOMA
WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY in effect
Only a 20 to 30 percent chance for snow exists for northwestern Oklahoma, with any snow occurring before midnight tonight.  On Friday and Friday night, skies will be partly cloudy.  Highs through Saturday will be in the low-to-mid-20s.  Lows tonight and Saturday night will be in the low-teens, while the lows will drop down to the upper single-digits Friday night.  However, wind chill values may be as cold as -5 degrees throughout this period. 

Saturday through Sunday night brings the return of snow and possibly some freezing rain farther north Sunday morning.  The greatest chance for snow would be Saturday night at 50 percent.  Winter weather clears out by Monday, with highs rising above freezing on Tuesday.

SOUTHWEST OKLAHOMA
WINTER STORM WARNING in effect
A wintry mix of precipitation with freezing rain and sleet will transition to sleet and snow later.  The precipitation will become all snow by Friday morning then end Friday afternoon.  Total daytime ice accumulation will be less than 0.1 of an inch.  Total snow accumulations could reach up to 2 inches.  Winds will also be strong, blowing from the north between 15 and 20 mph, and gusting to 25 mph.  Highs will be in the upper-20s today before dropping down to the low-to-mid-20s Friday and Saturday.  The low tonight will be in the low-20s, but then fall dramatically for Friday night into the mid-0s as skies partially clear.  Wind chill values will be as low as -5 degrees Friday night.

Winter weather returns for the weekend with slight chances for snow beginning Saturday afternoon and lasting through Sunday morning.  Then, all wintry precipitation comes to an end on Monday.  Temperatures will remain below freezing until Tuesday or Wednesday.  Lows will we in the mid-teens Saturday and Sunday night, then take another dive to the upper single-digits Monday night.

NORTH CENTRAL OKLAHOMA
WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY in effect
Expect a 30 percent chance for snow later this afternoon, with snow likely after midnight tonight.  Periods of snow will last through mid-Friday morning.  Daytime snow accumulation will be less than a half an inch, but nighttime snow accumulation could total 1 to 3 inches.  Highs through Monday will be in the mid-to-upper-20s.  Lows tonight will be in the mid-teens, the mid single-digits on Friday night with wind chills as low as -10 degrees, and the low-to-mid-teens on Saturday and Sunday night.  Skies will clear partially for Friday night and Saturday before a second round of wintry precipitation bringing snow and freezing rain occurs Saturday night and Sunday morning.

CENTRAL OKLAHOMA
WINTER STORM WARNING in effect
A few flakes have started to fall across some of the Oklahoma City metro area.  Chances for freezing rain and sleet, possibly with some snow, will occur through mid-afternoon.  This mixture will become mainly sleet and snow after that time, transitioning over to all snow by midnight.  The snow will last through mid-Friday morning before coming to an end.  Little to no ice accumulation is expected today.  Snow accumulation will also be minimal at less than half an inch.  However, for tonight, expect snow totals up to 3 inches farther south of Oklahoma City and snow totals up to 5 inches north of Oklahoma City.  Highs will be in the low-to-mid-20s through Saturday, rise to the upper-20s on Sunday, and remain in the mid-to-upper-20s through Tuesday.  On Wednesday, highs will rise above freezing once again.  Lows will be in the upper-teens tonight, the upper single-digits Friday night with wind chills approaching 0 degrees, then the mid-to-upper-teens Saturday and Sunday night.  The single-digits return Monday night.

A second round of winter weather is also possible for central Oklahoma beginning Saturday afternoon and lasting through Sunday morning.  The wintry precipitation will be mainly snow, possibly mixed with some freezing rain on Sunday.

SOUTH CENTRAL OKLAHOMA
ICE STORM WARNING in effect
Freezing rain is currently falling across south central Oklahoma.  This freezing rain will continue through the overnight hours and could transition to snow early Friday morning before coming to an end mid-Friday morning.  Total daytime ice accumulation may reach a tenth of an inch, with nighttime ice accumulation reaching between 0.1 and 0.3 inches.  Highs today will be in the low-30s, with lows tonight in the mid-20s.  Highs Friday will only reach the upper-20s, with lows Friday night falling down to the mid-teens.  Skies will remain mostly cloudy Friday night, then sleet and freezing rain chances return for the weekend, from Saturday afternoon through Sunday morning.  All precipitation will come to an end by Monday, and highs will finally rise above freezing on Wednesday.

NORTHEAST OKLAHOMA
WINTER STORM WARNING in effect
Expect a mixture of occasional snow and sleet this afternoon.  The mix will become all snow by the evening hours.  Snow will last through Friday morning, then switch over to a light freezing drizzle in the early afternoon hours.  Total daytime snow and sleet accumulation may reach an inch, with snow accumulations tonight totaling between 1 and 3 inches and snow accumulations on Friday totaling between 1 and 2 inches.  Highs today will be in the mid-20s, with lows tonight in the upper-teens.  Friday early morning will start in the upper-teens to low-20s, with temperatures falling to the mid-teens by mid-morning.  Friday night will see partly cloudy skies with a low temperature in the mid single-digits.  The wind chill values will be between -5 and 5 degrees.  Saturday will see sunny skies with temperatures in the mid-20s.  For Saturday night and Sunday, a wintry mix of precipitation is possible, with snow and freezing drizzle.  Saturday night will see lows in the upper-teens, while Sunday sees highs in the upper-20s.  Sunday night will see a partial clearing of skies, as will Monday.  Highs will remain in the 20s through Tuesday and still remain below freezing through Wednesday.

SOUTHEAST OKLAHOMA
ICE STORM WARNING in effect
Starting with far southeastern Oklahoma, rain will occur today and tonight as temperatures remain just slightly above freezing.  However, please watch out for freezing rain as temperatures are hovering only a degree or two above the freezing mark and could drop at or below freezing at any time.  Ice accumulation could total at up to 0.3 of an inch.  For Friday, temperatures will hover right at freezing, so rain or freezing rain will occur during the morning hours.  Highs will remain generally in the low-to-mid-30s through the forecast period.  The coldest lows will occur Friday night and then Monday night dropping down to the mid-to-upper-teens.  A second round of winter precipitation in the form of freezing rain will come Saturday night into Sunday morning.

For the rest of southeast Oklahoma, light freezing rain is currently falling.  Occasional freezing rain will continue through the evening before mixing with sleet and then becoming all sleet after midnight.  For Friday, a snow and sleet mixture will occur through mid-afternoon.  Total daytime ice accumulation will be as high as 0.2 of an inch, with nighttime sleet accumulations at up to 3 inches.  Highs will be in the upper-20s today, with lows dropping down to the low-20s tonight.  Friday night and Saturday will see generally clear skies.  The lows Friday night will be in the upper single-digits, with highs Saturday rising to the mid-20s.  As with the rest of the state, a second round for wintry precipitation is possible from Saturday night through Sunday, with freezing rain mixing with sleet.  By Monday, all winter precipitation will end.  Highs will rise above freezing again on Wednesday.
