Winter Weather Exits Oklahoma, Clear and Warmer for Rest of Week

A few lingering snow showers in far northeast Oklahoma should taper off by the mid-afternoon. Elsewhere, skies have cleared as the cloud cover moves off towards the east and will remain this way for the rest of the week. The winter storm left its highest snowfall accumulations in the northwest and panhandle. Warm temperatures aloft and at the surface as well as dry air moving in from west Texas were the culprits of causing little snow to fall in parts of central and southern Oklahoma. However, this system was still a rainmaker as some areas across the state picked up over an inch of rain.

Temperatures Warm Up This Weekend, Winter Weather Returns Sunday/Monday

Across most of southern and eastern Oklahoma, skies have cleared today are expected to remain that way through the weekend. Then, yet another cold front moves in from the west, giving us another chance for wintry weather to start off the work week. The system will impact the northwest and panhandle beginning Sunday and move towards the east on Monday. Near-blizzard conditions are possible in northern Oklahoma, with slight accumulations of snow further south. But this may change depending on the exact track of the system.

Chance for Storms Wednesday Through Thursday

The warm weather comes to an end Monday as a cold front advances across the state. In areas of western Oklahoma and the panhandle, high temperatures will drop nearly 20 degrees below what they were on Sunday. Expect the low-to-mid-50s for highs in the panhandle and northwestern Oklahoma and the mid-to-upper 50s elsewhere. In extreme southern Oklahoma, we may still see some low-60s. In western and central Oklahoma, skies will start out mostly cloudy and gradually clear throughout the day as the cold front passes through. In the east, expect skies to be cloudy all day, with rain showers developing during the afternoon. Monday night/Tuesday morning temperatures will be rather chilly, with some spotty showers across the state. Most of the state will see lows in the low-to-mid-30s, but further north, the low-to-mid-20s may be a chilly greeting as you step outside to start your day.

Areas in the panhandle may see the low-40s for highs, with a slight chance of rain and snow during the day. Skies will be clear to partly cloudy elsewhere. On Friday night, as temperatures drop down to the 20s, expect a chance of flurries all across Oklahoma.

The highest totals will be in the northwest part of the state where up to 8" is possible in the heaviest snow bands and where snow will fall the longest. Norman will see 1-3" of snow.
