Another Day of Rain, Cool Temperatures

As the upper-level low continues its southwesterly track, rain showers and thunderstorms will continue to rotate in a counterclockwise direction around it.  Most of the rain from this system has fallen in central Oklahoma, but western Oklahoma has picked up some rain as well.  Oklahoma City's Will Rogers World Airport has picked up over 3 inches of rain so far and is still expected to see more.  Below we have a list of 48-hour rainfall totals across select Oklahoma cities.  Off and on rain will continue through Wednesday before the low finally pushes out of the area.  Below-average temperatures will also continue until this time, mainly for central and western Oklahoma.

The Forecast
This morning, central and south central Oklahoma have been blasted with rounds of heavy rainfall.  Parts of eastern Oklahoma, such as Tulsa and McAlester, also received some thunderstorms in the early morning hours.  The heavy rain is currently moving off to the west.  Following the persistent morning rain in central Oklahoma, showers should become more scattered by the mid-afternoon.  A 50 - 70% chance for rain and possibly a thunderstorm exists in all of central and western Oklahoma with skies remaining mainly cloudy.  In eastern Oklahoma, rain chances will be no greater than 30% this afternoon, with partly to mostly cloudy skies.

Afternoon temperatures will again be coolest in areas seeing rainfall.  Like yesterday, we will struggle to see afternoon temperatures above the low-80s across central and western Oklahoma.  In fact, most areas in these regions will not see temperatures even reach the 80-degree mark.  For central and western Oklahoma, afternoon temperatures will be in the mid-to-upper-70s.  The exception will be far south central and far north central Oklahoma, with temperatures expected to reach the low-80s.  Eastern Oklahoma is another story yet again.  With little rain and even some sunshine expected, highs will once again make it to the mid-to-upper-80s and even low-90s in the far northeast.

For tonight, the rain continues.  Southwest Oklahoma has the greatest chance at seeing rainfall, with chances as high as 90%.  For northwest Oklahoma, including the panhandle, and central Oklahoma, expect a 30 - 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms tonight.  Most of the rain in central Oklahoma will occur before midnight, with scattered showers possible after midnight.  Across eastern Oklahoma, chances for rain are slim at no greater than 20%.  Overnight lows will remain mild due to the rain and cloud cover.  Expect for the upper-50s in the panhandle, the mid-to-upper-60s can be expected for tonight.

On Tuesday, rain remains likely in southwest Oklahoma, with chances of up to 70%, mainly in the morning.  The remainder of the state, including the panhandle, northwest, central, and eastern Oklahoma, has a 30 - 50% chance of seeing showers and thunderstorms off and on throughout the day.  Skies will be mainly cloudy for all of the state.  Afternoon highs should start to warm-up to the mid-80s for central Oklahoma.  Meanwhile, western Oklahoma and the panhandle will see highs in the low-80s.  Eastern Oklahoma will continue to see highs in the mid-to-upper-80s and low-90s.

For Tuesday night, rain chances begin to diminish across the state at around 20 - 40%.  The best chance for rain would again be in southwest Oklahoma.  Overnight lows will continue to be coolest in the panhandle and warmest across the rest of the state, with the 60s expected.  On Wednesday, a 30% chance of rain can be expected in the panhandle and northwest Oklahoma, mainly in the afternoon only.  Central and southwest Oklahoma should see a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms throughout the day.  Eastern Oklahoma will see rain chances no greater than 20%, with skies clearing.

Lingering rain showers and possibly thunderstorms are now expected to remain through Thursday for central/south-central and southwestern Oklahoma.  Rain chances Wednesday night are as high as 40% across these areas but diminish to 10 - 20% on Thursday.  After Thursday, skies will begin to clear, and high temperatures will begin to warm back up to the low-90s across the state.
