Winter Weather Exits Oklahoma, Clear and Warmer for Rest of Week

A few lingering snow showers in far northeast Oklahoma should taper off by the mid-afternoon. Elsewhere, skies have cleared as the cloud cover moves off towards the east and will remain this way for the rest of the week. The winter storm left its highest snowfall accumulations in the northwest and panhandle. Warm temperatures aloft and at the surface as well as dry air moving in from west Texas were the culprits of causing little snow to fall in parts of central and southern Oklahoma. However, this system was still a rainmaker as some areas across the state picked up over an inch of rain.

For the rest of today, expect mostly sunny skies in central and western Oklahoma and mostly cloudy skies in the east. Due to the snowpack in the northwest, high temperatures will remain in the low-to-mid-30s. In parts of the panhandle, the highs may reach the upper-30s. Across northeast Oklahoma, expect highs to be in the upper-30s to low-40s. In central Oklahoma, highs will range from the upper-30s further north, to the mid-40s further south. Across southern Oklahoma, we’ll see the warmest high temperatures in the low-50s. Winds will remain somewhat strong across all of the state, blowing from the northwest at 15 to 20 mph. Gusts may be as high as 30 mph.

For tonight, expect partly to mostly cloudy skies across all of Oklahoma. A few flurries are possible in the north. Lows for Wednesday morning will be coldest in northwestern Oklahoma due to the snow cover. We’ll have lows in the upper-teens to low-20s. Elsewhere, morning lows will range from the mid-20s further north to the mid-30s further south. Across the state, winds will blow from the northwest at 5 to 15 mph.

On Wednesday, skies will be partly cloudy across the state. In extreme northeastern Oklahoma, there is a slight chance for a snow shower or two, mainly before noon. Highs across the state will range from the mid-to-upper-30s in the northwest and panhandle, to the low-to-upper-40s in northeast and central Oklahoma, to the upper-40s to low-50s in southern Oklahoma. Northwest winds will blow at 5 to 15 mph, with some stronger gusts in the north.

For Wednesday night, skies will be partly to mostly cloudy across the state. Thursday morning lows will be in the mid-to-upper-20s across a bulk of the state, just slightly cooler in the low-20s in the northwest. Winds will blow from the northwest at 5 to 15 mph, with stronger gusts in the northwest.

On Thursday, expect mostly sunny skies with highs in the upper-40s to low-50s in central and southern Oklahoma and highs in the low-to-mid-40s across northern Oklahoma. For Thursday night, skies will be partly cloudy with temperatures on mid-20s to mid-30s across all of the state. On Friday, skies will be mostly sunny with highs in the low-to-mid-40s across northern Oklahoma, highs in the low-to-mid 50s across central Oklahoma, and highs in the mid-to-upper-50s across southern Oklahoma.
