Spring-Like Conditions Will Be Short Lived

The past week in Oklahoma has been an excellent one, weather wise at least. The temperatures have remained well above normal throughout the week, but enjoy it while you can, as a small cold front will start to move through beginning early next week.

Friday, conditions were very dry, windy, and warm, which is very similar to the type of conditions Oklahoma experienced last weekend. Similar to last weekend, there was a very high fire danger risk, which is expected to continue into Saturday and possibly Sunday. Saturday is expected to be very warm and pleasant with similar conditions to Friday, and a possibility of a red flag warning. Unfortunately after Saturday, expect the cold front to begin moving through and start cooling down the area and bringing some small possibilities of precipitation early next week.

Sunday will bring fog conditions early, and will never really live up to the pleasantness of Saturday, with high temperatures in the low 50's, fog early, and cloudy skies later on in the day. As the front moves through, it will cause temperatures to drop even further and also bring some slight rain chances late Monday, and early Tuesday. Monday will see very similar conditions to Sunday, with temperatures in the low 50's, and although skies will start out sunny, Monday should see increasing clouds as the day moves on. The increasingly cloudy skies will give way to slight chances of rain and thunderstorms Monday night into Tuesday morning which will be predominantly focused in the southern part of Oklahoma. The emphasis is on slight chance though, probably around 20-30 for most of the state with a possibility of slightly higher chances of precipitation Tuesday morning then Monday night. Tuesday will see clear skies once the morning passes, along with cooler temperatures in the mid to upper 40's. Temperatures are predicted to continue dropping from there, with the high's on Wednesday projected to be in the upper 30's to low 40's. Another concern for Oklahoma next week will be the decreasing low temperatures in the mornings, which will start out in the upper 30's Sunday and Monday, but will eventually drop down to the mid 20's Tuesday and Wednesday. With decent wind gusts around 15 to 20 mph expected for the next week, expect some areas to see morning wind chills well below freezing.

Across the Nation

Friday saw some some interesting weather across the nation, where a good portion of the east coast and mid-atlantic saw some precipitation and severe weather. From this area, a few tornado watches were handed out, but thankfully with only minimal damage and no casualties up to this point. For the upcoming week, the country will see similar changes as Oklahoma, with temperatures dropping rapidly, particularly in the midwest. Some estimate that the low temperatures could drop below zero for many areas in the midwest later next week.

Across the Globe

The winter olympics are coming to a close in Sochi, and fortunately the warm temperatures of the area had little impact on the sporting events this year, besides arguably the snowboarding halfpipe. As of now, the United States is leading all countries in total medals, but despite this many still have their minds on the losses to Canada in both men's and women's hockey. Also of note, in Ukraine protestors continue to revolt against their government despite the excessive violence shown by the government and police force, and harsh temperatures in the 30's, with wind chills around 20 overnight.

Thanks for keeping up our with blog, and to all our readers stay warm next week!
