Ready for a cool down? The past two weeks of September have been fairly hot and has most people ready for the cool temperatures associated with fall. Is there any hope of these cool temperatures any time soon? Keep reading for your answer!
Looking at the past models, we can see a trend of high pressure which brought hot and dry weather conditions to the state of Oklahoma. If you're ready for a break from the heat, you're in luck! Later in the week you can expect highs in the 80's and temperature lows in the high 60's to mid 70's. This slight change in the weather can be attributed to a mild low level trough moving into our area. Good news keeps coming with the low level trough. Our rain chances go up and we see the possibility of thunderstorms in regions of Oklahoma.
Unlike the beginning of the summer, September has been unusually dry. In fact, it has been nothing but dry for central Oklahoma, with only traces of precipitation in the southeastern and northwestern parts of the state. Oklahoma City's metro rain totals for the year are just over 45 inches, but the lack of rain in the past weeks has halted our hopes of having the wettest year on record. Thankfully, we should boost our rain totals at the end of this week, with arrival of a weak frontal system.
Will these cooler temperatures stick around with the approaching fall season? Or will the blistering temperatures of summer return once more? Check back later in the week for an updated blog post!
