Rain Chances Increase This Weekend
As the upper-level high moves off to the east and out of the area, the scorching hot temperatures we have seen this past week, especially in the west, will back off somewhat starting Saturday. As a stronger cold front pushes through at the beginning of next week, temperatures will become even cooler and below normal for the central and eastern parts of the state. Cloud cover and rain chances will also increase, especially Sunday night. We will now give you your weekend forecast and a brief glance at next week. A complete, detailed forecast for the new work week will come in a couple of days.
Saturday
Let us first clarify that the chance for any severe weather is low. However, developing storms may produce frequent lightning and heavy downpours at times. For Saturday morning, expect lows in the low-to-mid-70s across the core of the state, with the upper-60s in the panhandle. Skies will be partly to mostly cloudy across the state throughout the day. Northern Oklahoma has the best chance of seeing thunderstorms, with chances between 40 and 50 percent. The rest of the state has a 30 to 40 percent chance of seeing thunderstorms. The panhandle will see no storms. The storms will occur during the afternoon hours and may last through midnight.
Sunday
For the morning on Sunday, expect partly cloudy skies with temperatures in the upper-60s and low-70s across the state. For the rest of the state, skies will be partly cloudy with thunderstorm chances low for the afternoon, at 20 to 30 percent. However, in the evening and overnight, rain chances will be as high as 70 percent across parts of central and northern Oklahoma.
For the start of the work week, expect partly to mostly cloudy skies with about a 20 to 40 percent of showers and thunderstorms across the state. Rain chances will be highest in northeast Oklahoma for Monday, then increase in central Oklahoma on Tuesday and Wednesday. Daytime highs will be as low as the fmid-80s across a great deal of the state through mid-week as the cold front passes. By the end of the week, the rain chances diminish, and warm temperatures return.
